A new year.

From the Trendletter of NeliRodi...

“A new decade announces itself with a sense that everything remains to be done, that the 21st century has only just begun. New values, new consumer habits…new ways to spice up our existence. Our questions are fundamental : it can be painful when fashion houses close their doors or talents disappear, yet this opens up possibilities for expression and new horizons for all creative professionals.

Today we are between know-how and innovation, as if the ‘world before’ resisted expectations which no longer have meaning. We take pleasure in cultivating nostalgia while questioning our identity and reason for being. And tomorrow’s world? It is being constructed each day, in artist workshops from Berlin to Beijing, in young African cities or on Sao Paolos streets…wherever visions emerge boosted by undeiscovered talents. On runways in the world’s fashion capitals the new generation whets our curiosity more than ever. If the 2000 decade was marked by the strength of international brands and the ‘mastodons’ of luxury or retail, the 2010 decade will see the emergence of new personalities and more cautious investments. In New York, a wave of designers with varied cultural references impose themselves a bit more each season (Derek Lam, Thakoon, Naeem Khan, Jason Wu…), stealing the spotlight from established American names. In Paris, old couture names are revived, conveying a more realistic fashion view from ‘low profile’ visionaries like Christophe Decarnin at Balmain and Guillaume Henry at Carven. The era of artistic ‘dictators’ has passed. Let’s turn the page without looking backwards. The future is constructed by those who aren’t afraid of tomorrow. ‘Dare to risk’ is the byword for 2010!”
